Product Description
Its a compact, multi-use, fixed-blade knifeits the Gerber Epic Knife. The name speaks to the impact this little knife will have on your camping or backpacking experience. 5 out of 5 stars Gerber delivers on this camp knife   June 24, 2010

This knife was purchased for me as a gift and I haven't been able to take my hands off it. This knife is a modified sheep's foot blade that is sturdy, durable and seemed capable of handling any cutting task I could come up with. It was sharp out of the box but a couple passes on the stone made it wickedely so. Notably, Gerber asserts that you can also do some prying with this knife; I tested that almost immediately and was satisfied with the results. I'm confident that I could even baton this knife through some firewood, maybe even cross grain, though I haven't been able to test that yet. Also, the bottle opener works effortlessly, unlike some. Now, there are a couple of cons. First, the handle of the knife feels like hard plastic and is a little uncomfortable in the hand. Also the pocket clip feels less than secure and I would worry that it could slip out if it snagged on something.

5 out of 5 stars .....they got the name right!   July 24, 2010

I think this really is an epic knife!! Great Gerber quality. I've owned many different brands over the years & have never been dissappointed with Gerber.....like their company mantra says: legendary blades. The fit & finish are top-notch & even the hard sheath is a clever but practical design. For a fixed blade knife it is reasonably small & concealable, but has excellent ergonomics and really fits the hand well. I suspect this will be one knife which i will want to keep for a long time.....good product!

5 out of 5 stars Good   March 16, 2010

I was tired of opening my hdl, usps, ups and fedex boxes with my kitchen knife.

I bought this knife, and it works, metal is good so it is sharp and it cuts well for a long time before you need to sharp it again in a wet stone 1000 grid ore 6000 grid.

For my use, the ergonomic of the knife is really good, the size is good, it is strong, it will work for years and years for me

4 out of 5 stars A Moderate Knife   March 2, 2010

As with other Gerber knives, the Gerber 30-000176 Epic Knife, Serrated Edge arrives very sharp and has an easy edge to maintain. The weighting is handle biased and when held there is a thumb grip just in front of the handle which is well placed. This knife does not fall into the category of a large fixed blade, rather it is the size of a non-folding pocket knife (see photo comparison with the Gerber 22-01589 Big Rock Camp Knife). The sheath allows for mounting on either side (lefties or righties) and smartly secures the blade within.

One weak point is the "sheath" due to the difficulty of pushing the blade into it without cutting blade-side of the sheath. I would guess that after 6 months to a year of use the blade-side of the sheath will be weakened because the blade nicks it as it is pushed in. This is the reason it is 4 out of 5 stars.

Overall, it is a good introductory knife for those who wish to have a small fixed blade, however do not be fooled as to its size. The Big Rock Camp Knife is a good alternative for those who wish for a larger cutting area.

4 out of 5 stars The perfect camping/rafting knife   June 28, 2010

What a fantastic knife. I took this knife on an annual camping/rafting trip and it never let me down. A actually received more compliments on this knife than anything I've ever owned (which lets you know the kind of goons i hang around with). I took it down river with it clipped to my waste. Upon hitting multiple rapids and falling overboard multiple times, i never worried i would lose it. Very sharp. Very nice case as-well, firm clip, snaps in place, great knife. The bottle open on the handle helps too ;-)
